Welcome to Kindergarten!

Thank you for stopping by! I'm so excited to be sharing this journey with you and your child. Kindergarten is a transitional period between the carefree days of being a toddler and the formal days of schooling. It is a time to gain independence, learn social skills, and become acclimated to the school environment. Additionally, prerequisite first grade skills are learned through fun, multi-sensory, hands-on ways. Throughout the Kindergarten day, opportunities are provided for free play, student choice, one-on-one, and small group instruction.

It is truly my pleasure and privilege to be your child's teacher. I have included information below that I hope you will find useful and refer to often.

Please contact me at jcoffen@misda.org or at 269-683-5444 if you have any questions!

Alphabet Song

When children are learning to read they need to blend sounds. This song presents each letter sound in a blend-able way with the sound and a word association for each letter, along with correct mouth formation for each letter.

Writing Paper

Kindergarten students love to share their ideas through writing! If your child wants to write at home, you'll find a variety of paper options available to best fit the needs of your child. Remember, for Kindergarten students much of the meaning comes through their pictures.  Gradually students will add letters for sounds in words and then move onto writing words.  We celebrate the stage each student is at!

Amazon Wish List

I keep a class wish list on Amazon which may be accessed by clicking above. Please don’t ever feel obligated to use this list, but it is there for those who may wish to purchase something for our class to enhance our learning environment.  Any and all donated wish list items are greatly appreciated.
